We are the healers, restorers and lovers of our generation. Our stories can and do bring peace to this planet.

I use to blog many years ago, a stay-at-home mother of five, happy with my life...my "blog life". Using my little blog as an escape from the unhappiness in my "real life". Real life has a way of catching up, albeit gasping for air and swearing profusely, before it overtakes us and completely changes the course we have so carefully crafted. My carefully crafted life was changed five years ago and I must admit, as blindsided as I felt, it was the best thing that has ever happen to me. But I'm sure you've heard that before.
Within the last five years I have survived a divorce, a little therapy, and a faith crisis. I also met my dream-man, married him and gained a whole new family dynamic. And we live happily and not so happily depending on the day because, well, this blog is not an escape anymore, it's simply a day-in-the-life of one less-than-average woman navigating one more-than-average "real life".
I've made a promise to each day write between 9:00 and noon because May Sarton obediently sat at her desk three to four hours every morning. She said it was a sacred time. And of course, May Sarton would know something about the sanctity of writing.
Actually - since we are on the topic of holy things - it was the Dalai Lama who introduced me to May...sort of, if you hold this sentiment up to the light and squint your eyes ever-so slightly...
He wrote (or so Pinterest claims),
"The planet does not need more successful people... the planet desperately needs more peacemakers, healers, restorers, storytellers and lovers of all kinds."
The moment I posted that quote to my Facebook wall, the Dalai Lama & I began our journey to find such people. And thus, His Holiness introduced me to May Sarton and we three have been dear friends ever since.
The said quote holds deep significance for me because where I have been failing hopelessly as a "successful person", I certainly have been trying to contribute a little something by way of peacemaking, healing, restoring, storytelling and loving. It has been an unwritten thesis my whole life and I suspect, if you are still reading, it has been your thesis too.
We are the healers, restorers and lovers of our generation. I have been thinking on this a great deal lately and how important it is. Our stories can and do bring peace to this planet. I don't know if I've always been conscious of my potential. I'd really like to change that if I can, in my own imperfect way.
