Gentle and soft,
Gentle and small
Charlotte sits
with a mountain inside her;
a great bear inside her.
How did she fit it all –
rocky peaks, teeth and claws –
inside her tiny frame
And still have room for
a vast and moving ocean?
Calm and clear
Calm and still
Though the skies are black,
the ocean lies over
many a sunken ship,
calm and still.
Though the universe rises in her throat,
Charlotte sits
-- gentle, soft and small --
sucking on stars from a fathomless sky.
